Many machines installed between 2012 and 2015 were programmed exclusively in TIA Portal V12. If a CPU fails and needs replacement, or if an engineer needs to modify the logic to add a sensor, they often must use the exact software version the project was created in. While newer TIA Portal versions can upgrade projects, the process can sometimes corrupt complex code or change block offsets, creating a risk that production managers are unwilling to take.
