It is the direct opposite of a (which removes material). While other CAD software (like SolidWorks or AutoCAD) call this "Extrude," CATIA uses the term "Pad" to emphasize that you are adding volume to a solid body.
The top face of the pad will shrink (or expand) based on the angle, while the neutral face remains the original sketch size. pad catia v5
