At the climax, when Glass confronts Fitzgerald, the original dialogue is iconic. The Hindi translation: "Main maut se nahi darta. Main pehle hi mar chuka hoon." (I am not afraid of death. I have already died once). This lands with incredible weight.

Unlike dubbing an animated movie or a regular action flick, The Revenant is a tough film to translate. The original film has very little dialogue—roughly only 30 minutes of spoken word in a 2.5-hour runtime. Most of the film relies on heavy breathing, moaning, and the sounds of nature.

The character of Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy) is particularly hard to dub because Hardy’s original mumbling accent is iconic. In Hindi, the dubbing artist usually opts for a gruff, deep North Indian dialect to mimic Hardy’s menace. The result is surprisingly effective, though purists might still prefer the original.
