A Brahmin was traveling through a forest when he came across a Bhuta (a spirit). The Bhuta asked the Brahmin to give him some food. The Brahmin, being a kind soul, offered the Bhuta some rice and dal. The Bhuta was so pleased that he granted the Brahmin a boon. The Brahmin asked for the power to understand the language of animals.
