Unlike purist approaches, Teaching Lexically pragmatically shows how to "lexicalise" existing materials. A grammar exercise on past simple verbs, for example, can be reoriented to focus on lexical past-time phrases ( last week, a few days ago, back in 2010 ).
Traditionally, language was taught as a series of grammatical structures into which vocabulary was inserted.
