Locating targets is the primary challenge of the Hunting Log. Every entry lists the name of the monster and the general region where it resides, such as "Middle La Noscea" or "Central Thanalan." However, these regions are vast. Savvy players look for the small, swirling "target" icon above a monster’s nameplate in the open world, which indicates that the creature is a current objective in their log. While some monsters are common and roam freely, others may be tucked away in specific caves or tied to low-level FATEs (Full Active Time Events). If a monster is not appearing in its listed zone, it is often beneficial to check sub-areas or landmarks mentioned in the log's flavor text. ffxiv hunting log guide
