Sing 2 pretends to be a children’s film, but its core audience may be burnt-out adults. Every character wants to escape a role: parent, widow, spoiled heir, failure. The final message – “You don’t have to be perfect; you just have to start” – is nearly therapeutic. Yet the film sidesteps deeper critique: Buster Moon lies, manipulates, and endangers his friends, yet faces no real consequences. The happy ending rewards the charismatic conman.
