Sophos Utm Home ((top)) | 8K × 2K |

Let's walk through the setup (assumes physical hardware).

The Home Edition is functionally identical to the paid commercial version. There is no feature crippling, no "nagware," and no time bomb. The only limit is (internal devices). For a homelab, a family of five, or a very small office, you will never hit this cap. sophos utm home

Powered by Snort, the IPS blocks known exploits, brute-force attacks, and vulnerability scanners. It can automatically block IP addresses that attempt to SSH brute-force your server. Let's walk through the setup (assumes physical hardware)

Remote access became critical in the last decade. UTM Home supported both IPSec (for client-to-site connections) and SSL VPN. The SSL VPN portal was particularly user-friendly, allowing users to log in via a web browser to access internal resources or download the VPN client automatically. The only limit is (internal devices)

One of the primary reasons users sought out Sophos UTM Home was the ability to build their own hardware. If you decided to install the software, the specifications were relatively modest, though scalability depended on your internet speed.

If you have gigabit fiber, disable the "Intrusion Prevention" engine for large downloads to max out speed, then re-enable it.
