The movie follows Bobby Roth, a devoted husband and father, who dies in a car accident. He finds himself in the afterlife, where he meets a by-the-book R.I.P.D. officer named Dottie (Mary-Louise Parker). Together, they team up to solve a murder case that involves a ghostly killer. Along the way, Bobby must navigate the afterlife and learn to work with his new partner to catch the killer and find peace.
