The film takes place in a vertically built, self-sustaining prison called The Vertical Self-Sustaining Prison, also referred to as "The Pit." The story revolves around Torren (played by Iván Massagué), a bank teller who is sentenced to The Pit for a crime he committed. Upon arrival, Torren is introduced to the prison's peculiar system, where inmates are divided into cells stacked on top of each other. The twist is that a platform with food traverses the prison from top to bottom every day, and inmates are expected to share the food among themselves.
