Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam won several National Film Awards. It also dominated the Filmfare Awards that year. It solidified Aishwarya Rai's status as a top-tier actress. It also proved Bhansali’s prowess as a director of grand epics.
The first half of the film is set in a vibrant Gujarat. It captures the essence of Indian festivals and joint family life. The chemistry between Sameer and Nandini is electric and playful. However, their love is forbidden by Nandini’s strict father. This leads to a heart-wrenching separation that sets the stage for the film’s second act.
Around the 17–20 minute mark, we are still being introduced to the world of Nandini (Aishwarya Rai) and Sameer (Salman Khan). This is before the storm of love, betrayal, and sacrifice takes over. At this point, Sameer, a gifted singer, has just arrived at Nandini’s family estate in rural Gujarat to learn classical music from her father, Pandit Darbar (Vikram Gokhale).
