The core of Episode 1 is the 25-minute sequence on the ship’s deck. In a brilliant echo of Marco and Giuliana’s first meeting in the original, Matteo and Giulia clash. He accuses her of being a privileged bourgeoisie playing revolutionary. She retorts that he is a “romantic brute” who punches problems instead of understanding them.

If the first Terra Nostra asked “How do we build a home?” this sequel asks “How do we protect that home from the monsters we thought we left behind?”
