In a strange, surreal detour, Jimmy visits his elderly grandmother in a nursing home. Cici is a relic of Old Hollywood—drunk, glamorous, and dying. She is also the only person who loves Jimmy unconditionally. She gives him her last string of pearls to sell. She tells him, “Hawaii is just a place. After stealing his father’s prized Mercedes (a recurring motif of toxic masculinity), Jimmy picks up a hitchhiker, a drunk, suicidal man named Al (Paul Koslo). The final thirty minutes of the film shift violently from comedy to thriller. A Night In The Life Of Jimmy Reardon
