While technically a television taping, the '68 Comeback Special (officially titled Elvis ) deserves a mention in any concert history. By the late 60s, Elvis had been lost in a string of formulaic Hollywood movies. He hadn't performed live in seven years.

For most of the 1960s, the live Elvis was a ghost. After returning from the Army, Colonel Tom Parker pivoted Elvis toward Hollywood. From 1961 until 1968, was a rarity.
