The movie is based on the true story of Marcus Luttrell (played by Mark Wahlberg), a former US Navy SEAL who was part of a four-man team sent on a mission to capture or kill Taliban leader Ahmad Shah in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. The team, which includes Luttrell's friends and fellow SEALs Michael Murphy (Taylor Kitsch), Daniel Taylor (Emile Hirsch), and Randy Shannon (Ben Foster), soon finds themselves outnumbered and outgunned by a large group of Taliban fighters.
