Laura Mulvey’s concept of the male gaze is inverted here: Teddy’s investigative gaze is a shield against his own feminized trauma. He cannot accept that his wife killed their children; instead, he creates a conspiracy (Ashecliffe as mind-control lab) to externalize his rage.
