A significant portion of the film's legacy rests on the shoulders of the creature design. The "Hunter" is a masterpiece of special effects. Originally, the production attempted a vastly different creature design (which Jean-Claude Van Damme was initially set to play), but it was scrapped early in shooting. Stan Winston, the legendary effects artist, stepped in to create the iconic mandible-faced alien we know today.
