For nearly 30 years, XSF remained a forgotten grass-and-gravel strip. That changed in 2015 when the Cambodian government, under the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), announced a plan to rehabilitate secondary airports. By 2018, the runway was paved, a basic terminal was constructed, and navigational aids were installed. In 2020, the first commercial charter flights landed at , marking its official re-entry into Cambodia’s civil aviation map.
