The story begins on a cold Thanksgiving in Pennsylvania when two young girls, Anna Dover and Joy Birch, disappear while playing outside. The investigation is led by Detective Loki ( Jake Gyllenhaal ), who eventually arrests a young man, Alex Jones (Paul Dano), found in a suspicious RV nearby.
