There is a common, albeit lazy, critical trope that all Nordic jazz sounds like "music for snowy funerals." Kamilla von Weissenberg actively fights this stereotype. While she respects the legacy of Manfred Eicher (founder of ECM), she argues that her music has more in common with minimalism (Arvo Pärt) and progressive rock (King Crimson) than with standard "Nordic melancholy."
Von Weissenberg-Nordberg describes the archipelago landscape as "barren, strong, and fragile". She began focusing on photography around 2004, driven by a desire to capture the unique light and "eternalize every sunset". While she uses photography to make the beauty of the islands accessible, she views her watercolor work as a more personal and critical medium for development.
