It is the perfect "family-friendly" gateway drug to anime. The Plot: A brilliant spy must marry a woman and adopt a child to get close to a political target. Unbeknownst to him, his "wife" is an elite assassin, and his "daughter" is a telepath. They all keep secrets from each other but try to be a normal family. Recommendation: Wholesome, hilarious, and beautifully animated. You cannot dislike Anya (the telepathic dog-loving child). Filters: ▼ Genre ▼ Length ▼ Rating ▼
This series is incredibly dark and contains mature content, but it is widely considered one of the greatest manga of all time for its art and storytelling. How to Choose? They all keep secrets from each other but
Incredible fluid animation by MAPPA studio and a "dark" take on Shonen tropes. The Plot: High schooler Yuji Itadori swallows a cursed object—the finger of the most powerful evil sorcerer, Ryomen Sukuna. He joins an organization of "Jujutsu Sorcerers" to exorcise curses and eat the remaining fingers. Recommendation: Watch the anime first. The fight choreography is revolutionary (see: Nobara vs. Mahito or Todo/Itadori vs. Hanami). The manga is currently in its final chaotic arc, but it is very dense and text-heavy.
A brutal Viking epic that turns into a philosophical meditation on peace. The Plot: A young Icelandic boy named Thorfinn watches his father be killed by a charismatic mercenary, Askeladd. He joins the mercenary band to survive and eventually earn a duel to the death. Recommendation: Season 1 is action-packed revenge. Season 2 is a slow, gorgeous farming drama about letting go of hatred. Read the manga after the anime ends; the current arc is peak fiction.
