The story follows Mary Katherine (often called M.K.), a headstrong teenager who moves in with her eccentric, estranged father, Professor Bomba. Bomba is obsessed with proving the existence of a tiny civilization of humanoid warriors called the Leafmen who live in the forest—a belief M.K. dismisses until she is magically shrunk to their size.
