D Day Movie Review
This is the anti-war D-Day movie. Starring James Garner and Julie Andrews, it is a black comedy and romance set in London just before the invasion. Garner plays a "dog robber" (an aide to an admiral) who is a self-proclaimed coward. He is forced to be the first sailor to land on Omaha Beach for a propaganda film.
Directed by Samuel Fuller, a WWII veteran himself, this semi-autobiographical film follows a rifle squad of the 1st Infantry Division (the "Big Red One") from North Africa to Sicily to the cliffs of Normandy. Its D-Day segment is personal, terse, and unsentimental, focusing on the grim professionalism of soldiers who have already seen too much war. d day movie
A massive international production that attempted to show the invasion from every perspective—American, British, French, and German. It is famous for its ensemble cast, featuring legends like John Wayne and Sean Connery , and was filmed on the actual beaches of Normandy without the use of CGI.
