Instead, the filmmakers treat them as intelligent, survival-driven animals. You watch Maya’s cautious wisdom as she assesses danger, Max’s reckless but brave impulsiveness, and the tragic deterioration of Old Jack, who refuses to leave his post even as the world freezes around him.
