The history of the AIDS crisis is usually told as a gay male story, but trans women—particularly Black and Latina trans sex workers—had some of the highest infection rates. They died in the wards alongside gay men, yet were often erased from the memorial quilts. Today, the fight for PrEP access, destigmatization, and healthcare equity binds the two groups in a shared epidemiology of survival.
For the transgender community, the dream is a future where "LGBTQ culture" is not a hierarchy. Currently, many trans people feel like "the T" is used as a prop for fundraising but ignored in day-to-day social settings.
