There is no dry eye at a Vidaai . The bride throws three handfuls of rice and coins over her head backward onto her childhood home. This symbolizes repaying her parents for raising her and wishing them prosperity. She then leaves in a car or palanquin. This ritual represents the kanya (daughter) transforming into the vadhu (wife). Historically, it signified the bride leaving her ancestral gods ( Kuldevis ) to worship her husband’s gods.
