Known initially as "Cutthroat Bitch," Amber was the candidate House refused to hire because she was too much like him. She was ruthlessly competitive, hyper-competent, and willing to do anything to win. By denying her a spot on the team but pairing her with Wilson in a romantic relationship, the writers created a perfect storm of interpersonal conflict.

Realizing the void cannot remain, Cuddy forces House to hire a new team. What follows is arguably the most entertaining arc in the show's history: the "Survivor" style recruitment process. House gathers a large pool of candidates (numbering over forty initially) and proceeds to whittle them down through a series of medical "games," arbitrary eliminations, and life-or-death diagnostic tests.
