The answer is stability. Later versions (4.2, 5.0) introduced forced updates, intrusive pop-up ads, and "Resource Packs" that consumed more memory. Version 4.1 remains the last "pure" build. It has no ads, no background updaters, and allows users to tweak graphics settings manually via config files.
